- Taxi. There's not many taxi companies on the island so we've included the number of the one we would recommend on the Q&A page. You can just whatsapp them on the day to book.
- Car. There are lots of vehicle hire shops dotted around the port with cars available for day hire
- Bus. There are so many coaches that go round the Port, Chora and Mylopotas beach regularly, at around β¬1.60-β¬2 a person. There are also daily buses to other places on the island such as Manganari Beach, Pathos and Koumbara Beach. You can see the full bus timetable here.
Chora is the main village of Ios and is a super pretty village to wander around. You can do some shopping, see the 12 windmills or stop at a cafe and relax!
You can also climb to the top of the Chora to watch the sunset from one of the 3 Chapels in Ios (Eleftherios, Georgios, Nikolaos)
You can do day trips to the other islands such as Paxos, Naxos and Sikinos through the general ferry, a private boat or a pre-arranged tour.
For example, there's a specific island wine tour to Sikinos you can book here π·
Ios Taxis will take you on an island tour where you can stop off at the beaches, Homers Tomb and the very mini island Cheese factory! π§
Hire an ATV for 24 hours and explore IOS! There's loads of places to rent an ATV for the day, or you can book an ATV tour π
This is one of the best things to do in Ios, it's the unofficial name of a bay in the south of the island (best to rent an ATV as its quite a bumpy road at the end).
It is around an hour's drive from Chora but the bay is stunning and you can cliff jump into the water.
Ios has so many beaches across the island to explore. The most popular beach Mylopotas is near where we will be but some of the others are dotted around the island.
On the beaches, you can also do watersports here π£ββοΈ
Here are some of the best beaches worth exploring:
- Mylopotas
- Koubara
- Manganari
- Tzamaria
If youβre looking to get some exercise, hiking is one of the best things to do in Ios. There are several marked trails crossing most of the island.
The hikes range in length from less than a kilometer to over 7km. Look for the signs, or ask at the hotel for directions to the hike starting points.
Youβll be able to catch stunning views of Ios, the churches and the surrounding islands from several of the trails!
There are so many bars and restaurants to try that we can't list them all! Have a google and you'll find loads in the area, these are just a few recommendations
A must! A Traditional Greek tapas restaurant, but make sure to book before!
Great for after dinner drinks, good cocktails and a small food menu too
Kick off your night with gourmet cocktails, dance music and a breezy outdoor sitting area. The espresso martini will not disappoint!
Live music every night
'Famous International DJs' mean this is one of the most lively beach clubs on the island but when there isnβt an event you can relax on the sunbed and enjoy a cocktail by the pool
Excellent cocktails and the best outdoor seating on the island make this tiki themed bar a perfect spot to relax
A cocktail bar where you sit on the steps on Chora
Irish pub showing all the sports with Karaoke, Games and cocktails
(The fact this pub has karaoke, sports on the tv and pool table means this is very much Zac's favourite spot π)
A sunset, pool bar and restaurant
